Z900 Specifications

The Kawasaki Z900's heart is a 948cc liquid-cooled inline-four cylinder engine - the same fundamental architecture that made the Z800 a cult hit, but significantly evolved. It delivers 123.6 bhp at 9,500 rpm and 98.6 Nm of peak torque at 7,700 rpm, paired to a 6-speed gearbox with a bidirectional quickshifter as standard on the 2026 model. That quickshifter alone used to be a Rs 15,000-plus accessory; now it comes in the box.

The 2026 iteration also brings revised camshaft profiles and new fuel mapping that Kawasaki claims improves mid-range punch and lifts fuel efficiency by 16 percent compared to the outgoing motor. The result is an engine that feels stronger between 4,000 and 7,000 rpm - exactly the range you'll be in during Indian city riding - without sacrificing the top-end rush that makes the inline-four addictive.

On the chassis side, the Z900 uses a high-tensile steel trellis frame with 41mm inverted forks up front (adjustable for preload and rebound damping) and a horizontal back-link monoshock at the rear. Wheel sizes are conventional 120/70-17 front and 180/55-17 rear, shod with Dunlop Sportmax Q5A tyres.

Braking is handled by dual 300mm front discs with radially mounted callipers and a 250mm rear disc, with dual-channel cornering ABS as standard - the cornering part means the ABS works intelligently even mid-lean, not just in a straight line. The full electronics suite adds ride-by-wire throttle, two power modes (Full / Low), riding modes, IMU-based traction control, wheelie control, and cruise control.

At 212 kg kerb weight with a 17-litre tank and 830mm seat height, the Z900 sits in a practical sweet spot - substantial enough to feel planted at highway speeds, not so heavy it becomes a chore in tight city traffic.
