The W175: the outlier

The Kawasaki W175 at Rs.1.15 lakh is by far the most accessible bike here and the only one competing on price with Indian brands. It is a simple 177cc retro roadster, and it exists to bring buyers into Kawasaki showrooms who would otherwise never consider the brand. The next model up costs roughly three times as much.

Ninja: the faired range

The Ninja 300 at Rs.3.17 lakh is the entry point to Kawasaki's sport range, using a 296cc parallel twin that is smoother at high revs than the single-cylinder rivals at similar money. The Ninja 500 at Rs.5.66 lakh steps up to 451cc.

Above those the range continues through larger Ninjas to litre-class machinery, with prices climbing steeply. These are specialist motorcycles with running costs to match.

Z and Versys

The Z650 at Rs.7.26 lakh is the naked 649cc roadster, with the retro-styled Z650RS at Rs.7.83 lakh alongside it — both more practical for daily use than the equivalent faired Ninja thanks to an upright riding position.

The Versys-X 300 at Rs.3.49 lakh is the accessible adventure tourer, and the Kawasaki Eliminator at Rs.6.16 lakh brings the 451cc twin into cruiser form.

The price gap

The most important thing to understand about this range is its shape. After the W175 at Rs.1.15 lakh there is nothing until Rs.3.17 lakh, and the bikes cluster in the Rs.3 lakh to Rs.8 lakh band before climbing to Rs.20.79 lakh.

That means Kawasaki is either a very affordable first big-brand bike or a substantial financial commitment, with little in between. Budget accordingly rather than assuming you can step up gradually within the brand.

Running costs and service

Four Kawasaki models carry a published ARAI figure, averaging about 21 kmpl — expected given how much of the range is 300cc and above. Real-world figures drop further with spirited riding.

The dealer network is concentrated in larger cities and is far thinner than any Indian brand's. Tyres, chain sets and brake pads all cost considerably more than on a commuter, and parts for the larger models can take time to arrive. Confirm your nearest authorised workshop and typical parts lead times before committing.

Who Kawasaki suits

The parallel-twin engines are the brand's calling card in India. A twin is smoother at high revs and more relaxed at sustained highway speed than a single of similar capacity, which makes bikes like the Ninja 300 and Ninja 500 genuinely comfortable over distance in a way that a 373cc single is not.

Buy Kawasaki if you value that character and live within reach of a dealer. If you are outside a major city, or you want the lowest running cost at a given performance level, an Indian-brand alternative will be far easier to own.
