Initial reviewer response was strong - the parallel-twin engine and lightweight chassis drew consistent praise - though pricing concerns were flagged from day one.
Early 2023 - Aprilia RS 457 Changes the Equation Aprilia launched the RS 457 at ₹4.22 Lakh with a 457cc parallel-twin, a 5-inch TFT display, multiple riding modes, and traction control - undercutting the Ninja 400 by over ₹1 Lakh while matching or exceeding it in several headline areas. The value narrative shifted decisively against the Ninja 400.
Late 2023 - Dealer Discounts Signal Stock Clearance Kawasaki dealers across India began offering ₹30,000 - ₹40,000 discounts on Ninja 400 inventory, a clear indication that production allocation had ended and remaining units were being cleared.
May 8, 2024 - Officially Discontinued Kawasaki India confirmed the Ninja 400 was discontinued from the Indian market. The Ninja 500 (451cc, ₹5.66 Lakh) was introduced as the direct replacement, offering more displacement, taller windscreen, and a less aggressive riding position.

Kawasaki revealed the 2025 Ninja 400 in new colour options for the Japanese market on May 20, 2025. Mechanical specifications remain unchanged; the update is cosmetic only and the model is not available in India, where it was discontinued in May 2024.
Kawasaki India officially discontinued the Ninja 400 on May 8, 2024, with the Kawasaki Ninja 500 (451cc, ₹5.24 Lakh ex-showroom) confirmed as the direct replacement. The Ninja 500 offers more torque (42.6 Nm vs 37 Nm) and an improved instrument cluster at the same price.
Kawasaki India cut the Ninja 400 ex-showroom price by ₹40,000 on March 5, 2024, reducing it from ₹5.24 Lakh to ₹4.84 Lakh in Delhi as part of a broader discount programme covering the Ninja 650, Versys 650, and Vulcan S - discounts of up to ₹60,000 were applied across the range to clear stock ahead of the Ninja 500 launch.
