Hero Xtreme 160R 4V — Overview
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is the most aggressively specified 160cc naked streetfighter Hero has built. The "4V" means a four-valve DOHC head - adding 2 bhp over the standard Xtreme 160R to reach 17.1 bhp - but the bigger story is the USD (upside-down) front forks. No other bike in the 160cc segment under Rs 1.5 lakh offers inverted forks as standard, and the front-end feedback difference is real. At Rs 1,38,491, it enters a segment crowded with strong rivals: the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, Bajaj Pulsar N160, and Yamaha FZ-S V4. It beats them all on suspension specification. Where it gives ground is engine refinement and kerb weight.

The Single-channel ABS variant is now Rs 1,38,491 and the Dual-channel ABS at Rs 1,47,191 ex-showroom Delhi - incremental adjustments reflecting input cost changes. Hero MotoCorp officially launched the Xtreme 160R 4V Combat Edition on November 26, 2025 at Rs 1,34,100 ex-showroom Delhi - making it the first 160cc motorcycle in India with cruise control, ride-by-wire throttle, and three selectable ride modes (Rain, Road, Sport). The Combat Edition also features a revised LED headlight design inspired by the Xtreme 250R and a new colour-LCD instrument console.

What We Like
- USD (upside-down) front forks - the only 160cc bike in India with this spec, delivering meaningfully sharper front-end feel and cornering feedback vs telescopic-fork rivals
- 17.1 bhp @ 9250 rpm from a 163cc 4-valve DOHC engine - among the strongest outputs in the 160cc segment, with a willing top-end character
- Dual-channel ABS on the top variant - independent front and rear braking intervention that single-channel setups can't match
- Bold naked streetfighter design with triangulated trellis-style frame and sharp LED DRL - visually the most aggressive Hero motorcycle
- Hero's service network spans India more densely than any competitor - important for 160cc buyers outside major metro cities
What Could Be Better
- 158 kg kerb weight is the heaviest in the segment - heavier than the Apache RTR 160 4V (~154 kg) and Yamaha FZ-S V4 (~149 kg), felt clearly in city traffic and parking
- Engine vibration above 7,000 rpm is intrusive - more buzz through handlebar and footpegs than the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V at similar revs
- Real-world mileage of 35-42 kmpl is the weakest in the segment - buyers who use it as a daily commuter will feel the fuel cost
- 800mm seat height restricts flat-foot access for riders under 5'6" - taller than the Apache RTR 160 4V and FZ-S V4
- Exhaust note is underwhelming for a performance-positioned bike - sounds muted rather than sporty at the top end
- Hero's performance brand identity lags TVS and Bajaj with enthusiasts - image considerations matter in this buyer segment
Editor's Verdict
Should You Buy the Hero Xtreme 160R 4V?
The Hero Xtreme 160R 4V is the spec-sheet winner of the 160cc segment: USD forks, 17.1 bhp, dual-channel ABS, all at Rs 1,38,491. Those aren't small claims - the USD forks in particular set it apart from every rival. The trade-offs are real though: it's the heaviest bike in the class, has the worst mileage, and the engine vibration and exhaust note don't match the performance bill it tries to present. Buy it if the USD forks and raw power spec matter to you and you're primarily doing spirited weekend rides. For daily commuting or if refinement matters, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V gives a more complete ownership experience despite costing more.
