BMW F850 GS News and Updates
May 2019 - India Launch
BMW Motorrad India launched the F850 GS and F850 GS Adventure on May 14, 2019, at an entry price that immediately undercut established adventure competitors. The pricing was aggressive for a BMW - the company was clearly targeting the growing middleweight adventure segment with a more accessible proposition than its larger GS siblings. At launch the standard Pro variant was priced just below Rs 13 Lakh ex-showroom, making it the most affordable feature-complete adventure tourer from a European manufacturer in India.
2022 - BS6 Phase 2 Compliance
The F850 GS received its BS6 Phase 2 compliance update without changes to peak power or torque figures. BMW retained the full electronics package as standard through the transition, and the engine's character - particularly the mid-range torque delivery - remained unchanged. The expert review at the time confirmed the bike at Rs 12.50 Lakh, still competitive with the segment's price benchmarks.
2023-2024 - Price Revisions
Periodic price revisions moved the Standard Pro ex-showroom from approximately Rs 12.50 Lakh to Rs 12.95 Lakh and ultimately to Rs 13.83 Lakh by the final year of sale. These increases tracked component cost inflation and currency fluctuations affecting imported motorcycles broadly - not F850 GS-specific.
February 2025 - Discontinuation
BMW Motorrad India discontinued both the F850 GS and F850 GS Adventure in February 2025 after a six-year production run. The discontinuation was expected - the model had reached the end of its product cycle globally, and BMW had already announced the successor.
BMW F900 GS - Successor
The BMW F900 GS is the direct replacement, carrying the same adventure formula with a slightly enlarged 895cc parallel-twin and updated electronics. It launched in India at pricing broadly similar to the late-era F850 GS, preserving the value positioning that made the outgoing model so appealing.

For buyers interested in the F850 GS today, the used market is the only route. BMW Motorrad authorised pre-owned programmes at select dealers in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore, and Hyderabad offer certified used units with limited warranty and verified service history. Independent platforms - BikeWale used listings, BikeDekho used, Team-BHP classifieds - list regular F850 GS stock. Clean low-kilometre 2022-2024 examples typically trade between Rs 10 Lakh and Rs 12.5 Lakh depending on condition, accessories, and remaining warranty. Always verify the service record at an authorised BMW Motorrad dealer before purchase - out-of-warranty repairs on imported adventure bikes can be significant.
