SXL 125 Specifications

The Vespa SXL 125 runs a 124.45cc single-cylinder, air-cooled, 3-valve SOHC engine mated to a CVT gearbox - the same mechanical heart found across the Vespa 125 range in India. Peak output is 9.77 PS at 7,400 rpm, with 10.6 Nm of torque arriving at 6,000 rpm. Those numbers won't win drag races, but the power delivery is smooth and linear - exactly what city commuting demands.

Piaggio claims 55 kmpl under ARAI test conditions. Expect 40-47 kmpl in real riding depending on traffic conditions and riding style. The 7.4-litre tank gives a practical range of around 300-350 km between fill-ups.

The chassis is all-Vespa: a monocoque pressed-steel body with no separate frame, which adds structural rigidity and that distinctive solidity when you tap the bodywork. Front suspension uses Vespa's aircraft-derived single-sided arm with anti-dive geometry; the rear gets a dual-effect hydraulic shock absorber with preload adjustment. Ride quality is firm by scooter standards - pothole-heavy Indian roads will make themselves known.

Stopping power comes from a 200mm front disc and 140mm rear drum, linked via CBS (Combined Braking System). Front grip is genuinely confidence-inspiring in city traffic. Wheels are 11-inch alloys at the front and 10-inch at the rear, shod with tubeless Maxxis radials (110/70-11 front, 120/70-10 rear).

At 114 kg kerb weight and a 770mm seat height, the SXL 125 is accessible for riders of most heights. Features include a semi-digital instrument cluster (analogue speedometer, digital odometer/trip/fuel), full-LED headlight with DRLs, under-seat storage with lamp, and a USB charging port.
