Triumph Speed 400 Full Specifications
The Triumph Speed 400 is powered by a 349cc liquid-cooled, DOHC, 4-valve single-cylinder engine producing 37 PS at 8,500 rpm and 32 Nm of torque at 7,000 rpm. It's mated to a 6-speed gearbox with a torque-assist slipper clutch. Fuel delivery is through Bosch EFI with ride-by-wire throttle control - a feature you'd expect on bikes costing twice as much.
The chassis is a hybrid spine and perimeter tubular steel frame with a bolt-on rear subframe. Suspension up front is a 43mm upside-down big-piston fork with 130mm travel - properly premium hardware. The rear gets a pre-load adjustable gas monoshock with 120mm travel. Both ends are tuned on the softer side for Indian road conditions, and the compromise works well in city traffic and on national highways alike.
Braking is handled by a 300mm fixed disc with a four-piston radial caliper up front and a 230mm disc with a single-piston floating caliper at the rear. Bosch dual-channel ABS is standard and non-switchable. The 17-inch alloy wheels run 110/80 and 150/70 tubeless tyres.
At 179 kg kerb weight, the Speed 400 is noticeably lighter than air-cooled rivals like the Royal Enfield Classic 350 (195 kg). The 803mm seat height is on the taller side - a consideration for shorter riders, though the slim seat and light weight make it more manageable than the number suggests. Fuel tank capacity is 13 litres, giving a claimed range of around 364 km. ARAI mileage is rated at 30 kmpl; real-world figures of 27-30 kmpl are consistently reported by owners.

Electronics include switchable traction control, all-LED lighting with DRL, a dual-format instrument cluster (analogue + digital LCD), USB charging port, and an anti-theft immobiliser. The service interval of 16,000 km (or 12 months) is a standout ownership advantage - most rivals in this segment require service every 5,000-6,000 km. The 2-year unlimited-mileage warranty adds further peace of mind. Note that the Indian-market Speed 400 uses a 349cc engine (down from the original 398cc) in compliance with GST norms; international models make 40 PS from 398cc.
