Roadster Specifications

The Harley-Davidson Roadster (XL1200CX) is powered by an air-cooled 1202cc Evolution V-twin engine producing 96 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Harley-Davidson does not officially publish peak horsepower figures for its air-cooled Evolution motors, but the power delivery is muscular and linear from 2,000 rpm onwards - exactly the kind of accessible grunt that makes long highway stretches so effortless.

Where the Roadster separates itself from the rest of the Sportster family is in its suspension and braking hardware. Up front, 43mm inverted (USD) forks with 115mm of wheel travel replace the conventional telescopic setup found on every other Sportster sold in India. Combined with twin 300mm floating front disc brakes and a dual-channel ABS system, the Roadster offers stopping confidence that the Iron 883, 1200 Custom, and Forty-Eight simply cannot match. The rear uses twin gas-charged shock absorbers with 81mm travel.

The Roadster sits on a 19-inch front wheel and 18-inch rear, both alloy units, shod with 120/70-R19 and 150/70-R18 tubeless tyres respectively. The larger front wheel compared to most Sportsters is a deliberate handling choice, improving straight-line stability at speed.

At 259 kg kerb weight, the Roadster is not a light motorcycle. The 785mm seat height is accessible for average-height Indian riders, though the 12.5-litre fuel tank capacity is the biggest practical limitation - you will need to plan fuel stops carefully on long tours. Ground clearance is 150mm, which handles most Indian road conditions adequately, and the 1,505mm wheelbase keeps the bike stable without making it feel unwieldy.

Transmission is a 5-speed manual with chain final drive. The gearbox has a characteristically Harley clunk between ratios - something owners either come to appreciate as part of the V-twin experience, or find frustrating, particularly when hunting for neutral in traffic.
