The Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom engine at the heart of the Fat Boy is a 1923 cc V-twin, the largest engine Harley-Davidson fits into its Softail platform. That torque number means you barely need to open the throttle above 1,500 rpm on most Indian highways - the bike simply surges forward in a long, unhurried wave that never feels hurried or stressed.

The Fat Boy tips the scales at 315 kg in running order. It is a heavy machine, but that weight is distributed low - the wide 240/40-R18 rear tyre and cast aluminium Lakester wheels keep the centre of gravity closer to the tarmac than the kerb weight suggests. The Fat Boy gets full LED lighting front to rear, USB charging, Michelin Scorcher tyres (160/60-R18 front, 240/40-R18 rear), a Tyre Pressure Monitoring System, and Harley-Davidson's Boom! GTS infotainment with Bluetooth connectivity. The 6-speed manual gearbox drives the rear wheel via a belt - practically maintenance-free for the distances most Indian owners cover.
