Katana Specifications

The Suzuki Katana is powered by a 999cc, four-stroke, DOHC, liquid-cooled inline-four cylinder engine - the same unit that sits inside the GSX-S1000 supernaked. It produces 150.19 bhp at 11,000 rpm and 106 Nm of peak torque at 9,250 rpm, figures that place it solidly in the litre-class naked segment. Drive goes through a 6-speed manual gearbox equipped with a slip-and-assist clutch to prevent rear wheel hop on aggressive downshifts, and a factory-fit bidirectional quickshifter for clutchless up and downshifts at speed.

Suzuki's Intelligent Ride System (S.I.R.S.) bundles three riding modes - Active, Basic, and Comfort - each altering throttle response and traction control sensitivity. The five-level traction control system (plus an off setting) gives riders fine-grained control on wet roads or low-grip surfaces. Low RPM Assist prevents stalling in heavy traffic, while the Easy Start System means one press of the starter gets the bike running regardless of clutch or throttle position.

The Katana rides on fully adjustable KYB inverted USD front forks (compression, rebound, and preload) and a KYB link-type rear monoshock (preload and rebound adjustable). This is a meaningful spec advantage over rivals that ship with partially adjustable or non-adjustable suspension. Braking is handled by twin 310mm front discs gripped by Brembo radial-mount four-piston calipers - the same Brembo units found on sportbikes costing significantly more - and a 240mm rear disc with a Nissin single-piston caliper. Dual-channel ABS is standard.

Tyres are tubeless 120/70-17 front and 190/50-17 rear. Kerb weight stands at 217 kg and fuel tank capacity is 12 litres. Seat height is 825 mm - manageable for riders above 5'6" but a stretch for shorter riders. Ground clearance is 140 mm, adequate for most Indian roads but not ideal for rough terrain. ARAI certified mileage is 23 kmpl; real-world returns of 16-19 kmpl are typical in mixed riding.
