Iron 883 Specifications

The Harley-Davidson Iron 883 is built around a 883cc air-cooled Evolution V-twin engine - the same family of motors that made Harley-Davidson famous globally. The BS6-compliant version makes 50.9 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 68 Nm of torque at 4,750 rpm, channelled through a slick 5-speed gearbox with chain final drive. These numbers may not look explosive on paper, but the way the power is delivered - with a thick mid-range torque that pulls strongly from low revs - is what defines the Iron 883 experience.

The chassis uses a mild steel tubular frame with 39mm non-adjustable Showa front forks and preload-adjustable twin rear shock absorbers. Braking is handled by a 300mm front disc and 260mm rear disc, both backed by dual-channel ABS - a welcome safety net on wet Indian roads. Wheels are alloy: 19-inch front with a 100/90 tyre and 16-inch rear with a wider 150/80 - the classic Harley Sportster stance.

At 256 kg kerb weight with a low 760mm seat height, the Iron 883 crouches close to the ground and feels planted at highway speeds. The 12.5-litre tank (with a 3-litre reserve) gives a range of roughly 275 km at a real-world efficiency of 20-22 kmpl. Ground clearance is just 140 mm, which is the spec you need to watch on broken roads or steep ramps - experienced owners learn to plan their lines.

The blacked-out treatment - dark engine cases, matte black exhaust, black powder-coated wheels, and minimal chrome - gives the Iron 883 a menacing street-fighter look that sets it apart from the chrome-heavy Harley-Davidson catalogue. The peanut-shaped fuel tank and solo seat are functional styling choices that keep the profile lean and purposeful.
