Breakout Specifications

The Harley-Davidson Breakout runs the Milwaukee-Eight 117 Custom - a 1923cc air-oil cooled V-twin that is shared with a handful of Harley's premium Softail family. The number that matters most is 168 Nm of torque arriving at just 3000 rpm. At cruising speeds around 100-120 kmph, the engine is barely working, leaving enormous reserve to overtake trucks on NH44 or sweep through fast sweepers without a downshift.

Peak power is 101.9 bhp at 5020 rpm, which puts the Breakout broadly on par with supersport bikes from ten years ago - but delivered in a completely different character. The six-speed gearbox has tall ratios designed for relaxed highway cruising, and the chain final drive is lighter than the belt drives used on many comparable Harleys.

The chassis is a steel frame with a hardtail aesthetic - the rear suspension is cleverly hidden under the seat and fender to give the illusion of a rigid chopper. The front uses a 43mm telescopic fork with 130mm travel. Ground clearance is a challenging 115mm, which is the biggest practical limitation for Indian roads.

On wheels and tyres, the Breakout makes a statement: a slim 130/60-B21 Michelin Scorcher 11 up front against a massive 240/40-R18 at the rear. That wide rear tyre is the design centrepiece - it kills cornering clearance but gives the bike its unmistakable silhouette. Stopping power comes from a 300mm floating front disc with a four-piston calliper, paired to a 292mm rear disc. Dual-channel ABS and traction control are standard.

At 309 kg, the Breakout is one of the heavier cruisers in India. The 18.9-litre tank gives a realistic range of around 300-320 km. Seat height is 665mm - low enough that most riders of average height will touch both feet flat to the ground.
