Ray ZR 125 Specifications

The Yamaha Ray ZR 125 Fi Hybrid is powered by a 125cc air-cooled, 4-stroke, SOHC, 2-valve engine with fuel injection and Yamaha's Blue Core efficiency architecture. It produces 8.2 PS at 6,500 rpm and 10.3 Nm of torque at 5,000 rpm, delivered through an automatic CVT transmission.

The headline figure is the ARAI-claimed mileage of 71.33 kmpl - the result of Blue Core's low-friction engine combined with the Smart Motor Generator (SMG) hybrid system. In real-world city use, owners consistently report 55-65 kmpl. With a pillion, expect 48-55 kmpl. Still among the strongest numbers in the 125cc scooter segment.

The SMG works as both a generator and an electric motor assist. During idling, the engine shuts off automatically (Auto Stop function). When you open the throttle from a standstill, the SMG provides additional torque for the first few metres - the 'Enhanced Power Assist' feature updated in the 2025 lineup. Yamaha claims this gives improved pickup and smoothness over the earlier setup.

Kerb weight is 99 kg - lighter than the Honda Activa 125 (101-108 kg), Suzuki Access 125 (106 kg), and TVS Jupiter 125 (108 kg). For city riding that weight advantage is tactile: parking, U-turns, and low-speed filtering all feel less effortful.

Other key specs: 5.2-litre fuel tank, 785mm seat height, 145mm ground clearance, 1,280mm wheelbase, and 21 litres of underseat storage. Wheels are 12-inch front and 10-inch rear, both tubeless. The battery is 12V/5Ah.

Braking: the base Drum variant uses drum front and rear with no UBS. All Disc and Street Rally variants get a disc front brake with Unified Braking System (UBS). No variant currently offers ABS - a limitation shared by most rivals at this price point, including the Suzuki Access 125 and TVS Jupiter 125.
