The biggest news for the Vespa SXL 150 is its discontinuation in India. Piaggio India pulled the plug on the SXL 150 effective 31 March 2025, ending a run that had seen multiple BS emission updates over the years.
March 2025 - Discontinued Piaggio India officially discontinued the Vespa SXL 150 along with other models in its lineup. The move was attributed to the challenging economics of maintaining a premium European scooter in a market where price sensitivity is high and the competition from feature-rich domestic rivals has intensified significantly.
December 2024 - Year-End Clearance Discounts Prior to discontinuation, Piaggio India announced clearance discounts of up to Rs 13,000 on the SXL 150 during the December 2024 festive season period, signalling that the model's days in India were numbered.
BS6 Phase 2 Update The SXL 150 received its BS6 Phase 2 (OBD-II) compliance update, which brought minor changes to the fuel injection mapping. No performance changes were made.

Piaggio India officially discontinued the Vespa SXL 150 in March 2025, ending its nearly decade-long run in India. No successor has been announced; the 150cc slot in Piaggio India's lineup remains vacant as the company shifts focus to its refreshed 125cc range.
Piaggio India launched the all-new 2025 Vespa scooter range on 11 February 2025, replacing the SXL and VXL model names with simplified Vespa and Vespa S branding. The new lineup includes Vespa 150 (Rs 1,48,937), Vespa S 150 (Rs 1,48,937), Vespa Tech 150 (Rs 2,07,223), and Vespa S Tech 150 (Rs 2,11,590) - all ex-showroom Delhi - and adds TFT displays with Bluetooth and keyless ignition on Tech variants.
Piaggio India offered year-end clearance discounts of up to Rs 13,000 on the Vespa SXL 150 during December 2024, in the lead-up to the model's planned discontinuation. The offer was available at authorised dealerships across India on existing stock.
Vespa India launched the SXL 150 Racing Sixties special edition at Rs 1,54,447 (ex-showroom), celebrating the brand's 1960s motorsport heritage with an exclusive green-and-white livery and period-correct graphics. The limited-run variant sold out quickly in metro markets.
Piaggio India updated the Vespa SXL 150 to comply with Bharat Stage 6 (BS6) emission norms, replacing the carburetor with fuel injection. Prices rose significantly post-transition, with the BS6 variant launching at Rs 1,28,288 ex-showroom - a substantial increase over the BS4 price.
Piaggio India launched the Vespa SXL 150 alongside the VXL 150, positioning the SXL as the sportier model with a square LED headlamp versus the VXL's round unit. Both were manufactured at Piaggio's Baramati facility in Maharashtra at launch prices of approximately Rs 80,000-85,000 ex-showroom.
With the SXL 150 now discontinued, there will be no further model updates or new variants. Existing owners should focus on stocking up on common consumables (air filters, belts, spark plugs) and identifying authorised service centres with trained mechanics before stock runs out.
