River Indie Full Specifications (2026)
The River Indie's headline number is 26 Nm of torque from its mid-mounted PMSM motor - more twist than most 150-200cc petrol scooters, and you feel it the moment you roll off from a standstill. Peak power is 6.7 kW (9 PS), with a continuous rated output of 4.49 kW. The motor is IP67-rated, sealed against dust and water ingress - which explains the 300mm water wading depth that's become one of the Indie's calling cards in monsoon-season discussions.
The 4 kWh lithium-ion battery also carries IP67 certification. River claims 163 km on the IDC cycle - the real-world expectation is 111-122 km in Eco mode, 85-100 km in Ride mode, and around 60-70 km in Rush mode. The chain drive (introduced Gen 2, November 2024, replacing the original belt unit) is now standard and is preferred for long-term serviceability - chains are easier to replace and adjust than proprietary belt systems.
At 143 kg, the Indie is heavier than the Ather 450X (108 kg) or Ola S1 Pro (125 kg), but the weight is reasonably distributed thanks to the mid-motor layout, keeping the centre of gravity low. Seat height is 787 mm - comfortable for riders above 5'5" but worth test-riding if you're shorter.
Braking is CBS (Combined Braking System) front and rear - no ABS. The 240mm front disc with a 3-piston caliper performs decently in dry conditions; in rain, owners are unanimous that the missing ABS is the Indie's most critical gap. Suspension is telescopic front (hydraulic dampers) paired with twin gas-charged coil-spring units at the rear with preload adjustment. The 14-inch alloy wheels come fitted with CEAT tubeless tyres (110/80-14 front, 120/70-14 rear) as standard from Gen 3 (October 2025).

Storage specs are the Indie's standout card: 43 litres underseat plus a 12-litre lockable front glovebox gives you 55 litres total - more than any other scooter at this price point, and enough to fit two full-face helmets underseat.
Electronics include a 6-inch digital LCD (redesigned and more legible in Gen 3), three riding modes (Eco, Ride, Rush), regenerative braking, reverse assist, and hill-hold assist (via the River app, added in Gen 3). Connectivity is limited - there's no Bluetooth navigation cluster, though the app covers ride analytics and remote diagnostics.
Charging: the bundled 480W portable charger takes approximately 8 hours from 0-100%. A wall-mounted 750W charger cuts this to about 5-6 hours. River's DC fast charging option handles 20-80% in roughly 90 minutes.
