River Indie Latest News and Updates (2025-2026)
The River Indie has received two significant updates since its February 2023 launch, both at the same price point - River's approach of iterating without a price hike has kept the Indie competitive without requiring buyers to upgrade.
Gen 3 - October 8, 2025: River launched the third generation at the unchanged Rs 1,45,999 ex-showroom price. Key changes: CEAT tyres (replacing previous units, with a wider front sidewall for improved cornering confidence), a redesigned 6-inch LCD cluster with better sunlight readability, hill-hold assist (via the River app), and traction control. The app integration was also upgraded - real-time charging status, over-the-air improvements, and improved ride analytics are now available.
8-Year Warranty - October 1, 2025: River introduced the Plus Five warranty plan covering 8 years / 80,000 km for battery and motor - one of the longest warranty commitments in the Indian EV scooter segment. This plan is available for both new buyers and existing Indie owners.
Gen 2 - November 26, 2024: The most significant mechanical change was the switch from belt drive to chain drive, addressing a long-term reliability concern raised by early owners. Reverse assist mode, new colour options, and revised suspension tuning were also included.
Service Network Expansion (2025-2026): River has been building out from its Bengaluru and Hyderabad base, targeting 80 service touchpoints by March 2026 across 30+ cities - a critical expansion given that service availability has been the brand's most-cited weakness.

The PM e-Drive subsidy for electric two-wheelers has been extended until July 31, 2026. The benefit for River Indie buyers is Rs 5,000 (capped at Rs 2,500 per kWh on the 4 kWh battery), applicable at the dealership as a reduction in ex-showroom price.
BikeDekho published a detailed comparison between the Yamaha EC-06 and River Indie, noting that Yamaha's first electric scooter for India is built on the same platform as the River Indie. The EC-06 is priced at Rs 1,67,600 - Rs 21,600 more than the Indie - and targets a more premium urban buyer.
River offered year-end purchase benefits on the Indie worth up to Rs 22,500 through December 31, 2025 - including a minimum down payment financing scheme starting at Rs 14,999, up to Rs 7,500 cashback at select stores, and accessory EMI options.
River launched the Indie Gen 3 on October 8, 2025 at an unchanged price of Rs 1,45,999 ex-showroom. River introduced an optional 8-year / 80,000 km warranty plan (Plus Five) for the Indie's battery and motor from October 1, 2025 - one of the longest warranty offers in the Indian EV scooter segment. New buyers can add the plan at Rs 8,399 + GST; existing 5-year plan holders can upgrade for Rs 3,399 + GST.
River's future product roadmap has not been officially announced, but community forums and patent activity suggest work on a second model - possibly targeting longer-range touring use or cargo applications. The company has also been building DC fast-charging partnerships.
For current owners: the Indie's standard service interval is every 6 months or 6,000 km. Chain lubrication and brake pad inspection are the most routine tasks. The River app sends service reminders and supports remote booking at authorised centres.
