Z650 Specifications

The Kawasaki Z650 is powered by a 649cc liquid-cooled, 4-stroke parallel-twin engine with DOHC and 4 valves per cylinder. In BS6 Phase 2 tune, it produces 67.31 bhp (50.2 kW) at 8,000 rpm and 64 Nm of torque at 6,700 rpm - numbers that feel perfectly matched to Indian road conditions where traffic forces you to ride mostly in the 3,000-7,000 rpm band.

The engine character is approachable rather than aggressive. It pulls cleanly from as low as 2,000 rpm and builds confidently through the mid-range, with the most exciting shove arriving between 5,500 and 8,000 rpm. This makes the Z650 easy to ride without constantly downshifting in stop-and-go traffic - a quality that commuters and weekend warriors both appreciate.

On the chassis side, the Z650 uses a steel trellis frame that keeps weight in check at 191 kg kerb - notably lighter than the Honda CB650R at 202 kg. Suspension is handled by 41mm conventional telescopic forks (120mm travel) upfront and a preload-adjustable horizontal back-link monoshock (130mm travel) at the rear. Ground clearance is 130mm, which is the one number that regularly catches Z650 owners out in Indian conditions.

Braking comes from a 300mm petal disc upfront with Nissin four-piston calipers and a 220mm petal disc at the rear - dual-channel ABS is standard. The setup is genuinely excellent and inspires confidence in mixed conditions. Kawasaki Traction Control (KTRC) rounds out the electronics package, offering a safety net for slippery surfaces.

The 15-litre fuel tank paired with an ARAI-certified 19.02 kmpl gives a technical range of around 285 km. In real-world mixed riding, owners consistently report 25-27 kmpl, stretching practical range to 375-405 km per fill - solid for a performance naked.
