Dominar 400 - 10,000 km down, still my favourite thing for highway runs

Just crossed 10,000 km on my Dominar 400 and given how much this bike gets used for weekend highway runs rather than daily commuting, felt like a good time for an honest update. This thing genuinely comes alive once you're past city limits - settled at 120 kmph on the highway it feels planted and relaxed in a way that surprised me coming from a smaller bike before this, the heft that people complain about in traffic actually works in its favour here.

Mileage has been fair rather than spectacular, I'm averaging around 28-29 kmpl combined, dropping to the mid-20s in city traffic and climbing into the low 30s on steady highway cruising. Had a slight knocking sound from the engine head early on which the service center identified as the rocker arm needing adjustment, apparently fairly common across Bajaj's lineup and not something to panic about once sorted. For anyone cross-shopping against other 400s, this site's Dominar 400 page has the numbers laid out clearly.

Two real complaints after this many km - the pillion seat is genuinely too hard for anything beyond an hour, my wife complains every single long ride, and the headlamp is close to useless in heavy rain. Anyone found a decent aftermarket pillion seat or gel pad that actually helped?

The highway stability is exactly why I bought mine too, did a 500 km run last month and got off feeling far less fatigued than I expected for a bike this size. My mileage sits close to yours, high 20s combined, and I've made peace with it given how much I enjoy the highway manners. Never got the rocker arm knock myself but I've read enough owners mention it that it does seem to be a known first-service item rather than a defect specific to your unit.

Slightly different story here - my dealer actually caught the same knocking sound during pre-delivery inspection itself and adjusted it before handover, so I never experienced it as an owner issue at all. Might be worth asking your service center whether this is something they now check proactively. Completely agree on the pillion seat though, my wife refuses anything beyond 40 minutes on the stock seat now, we're actively looking at seat upholstery options that add some extra cushioning without changing the riding height too much.

Get a gel seat pad rather than replacing the whole seat, much cheaper fix and made a real difference for my pillion on longer rides. On the headlamp in rain issue, that one's a known complaint across a lot of owners unfortunately, an aftermarket LED replacement bulb helped my visibility a bit though it's not a complete fix. What's your service cost been running at this point, curious if 10,000 km has meant any major expenses yet?
