Ather 450S — Overview
The Ather 450S is the entry point into Ather's 450 electric scooter family, priced from Rs 1,22,000 ex-showroom. It uses the same mid-mounted motor platform as the 450X and 450 Apex, producing 5.4 kW peak power (7.34 PS) and 22 Nm of torque. Two battery options are available: 2.9 kWh (122 km IDC range, Rs 1,22,000) and 3.7 kWh (161 km IDC range, Rs 1,53,000). Top speed is 90 kmph; 0-40 kmph takes 3.9 seconds. The 450S weighs 108 kg and has a 780mm seat height. Both disc brakes front and rear with CBS are standard. A 7-inch colour LCD display with Ather app connectivity and OTA update support is fitted on all variants. The Battery as a Service (BaaS) subscription option reduces the upfront purchase price further.

What We Like
- Most affordable entry into Ather's ecosystem - Rs 1,22,000 brings Ather's aluminium chassis, dual-disc brakes, and OTA platform
- 108 kg - one of the lightest mainstream electric scooters in India; lighter than Chetak (118 kg) and most Ola S1 variants
- Dual disc brakes (200mm front, 190mm rear) with CBS standard on both variants
- 7-inch LCD with Ather app, OTA updates - same connected platform as 450X and Apex
- Two battery choices (2.9 / 3.7 kWh) plus BaaS option to match budget and commute needs
What Could Be Better
- 5.4 kW / 22 Nm and 90 kmph top speed - no Warp or Sport+ mode; measurably less exciting than 450X or Apex
- 0-40 in 3.9 seconds - 1 second behind the Apex; noticeable in daily city traffic sprints
- LCD display (not TFT) - step down in brightness and visibility vs Apex's TFT panel
- 2.9 kWh variant's ~90-100 km real-world range demands careful route planning for 40+ km daily commuters
- Ather service network limited outside top 10-12 cities
Editor's Verdict
Should You Buy the Ather 450S?
The Ather 450S is the right Ather for buyers who want the brand's software ecosystem, dual-disc braking, and light weight without paying for performance headroom they will not use. Choose the 2.9 kWh variant if your daily commute is under 40 km; choose the 3.7 kWh variant if you want comfortable range without daily charging anxiety. Against rivals like the TVS iQube S and Bajaj Chetak, the 450S wins on software quality, weight, and braking hardware. It loses on brand familiarity for buyers outside Ather's existing customer base, and on geographic service availability. For buyers in an Ather-served city, the 450S is a strong, well-rounded entry-level electric scooter choice.
