Honda SP 125 owner for 10 months - worth the extra over other 125s?

Been riding the SP 125 for about 10 months now, roughly 6,500 km, bought it over the regular Shine mainly because the price bump felt worth it for the fully digital cluster and slightly sportier look. Mileage-wise I'm getting a steady 58-60 kmpl in city use, and I've read of owners crossing well past 30,000 km reporting even higher averages once the engine is fully run in, so it seems to genuinely improve over time rather than degrade.

Engine refinement is where this bike really stands out for me, at city speeds there's barely any vibration through the pegs or bars, which honestly surprised me coming from a much older commuter bike. The CBS setup gives decent confidence while braking in traffic, and the seat is comfortable enough for my daily 25 km round trip. My one real complaint is the suspension, it's quite firm, and combined with a fairly thin seat, longer rides start to get uncomfortable past the hour mark. It's also priced a good bit higher than some 125cc rivals, so this isn't the budget pick in the segment, you're paying for the refinement and the badge.

Your mileage numbers match mine almost exactly, I'm at around 59 kmpl average over about a year of ownership. Completely agree on the refinement point too, that's the main reason I paid the premium over cheaper 125s, it just feels like a more mature engine at city speeds. On the seat issue, I added a simple gel seat cover from a local accessory shop, made a noticeable difference on rides over 20 km, and it cost next to nothing so worth trying before spending on anything fancier.

Useful thread. Question for the group, has anyone actually compared real running cost between the SP 125 and the regular Shine over a similar distance? Trying to figure out if the extra you pay upfront evens out through better mileage and lower maintenance, or if it's mostly paying for the styling and features. Would help to hear from someone who's owned both or at least cross-shopped seriously before buying.

Mostly agree with everything said here, but I'll flag one thing for anyone reading this before buying, a friend of mine had an oil leak show up on his SP 125 within the first 6,000-7,000 km, sorted under warranty but a bit concerning at this price point. Doesn't seem to be a widespread issue based on what I've seen elsewhere and mine's been fine, just worth getting the engine properly checked at every service rather than only when there's a visible problem.
