# Gixxer SF 250 - 10 months, 8000 km, here's my take

Ten months and just over 8,000 km on my Gixxer SF 250 now, mostly daily commute with occasional weekend rides. What sold me on this bike originally was reading how reliable the fully faired 250 segment could be if you pick right, and so far it's held up to that reputation, no unexpected issues, and both my services have been genuinely inexpensive, nowhere close to what I was bracing for on a fully faired bike. Mileage has been consistent too, right around 35 kmpl if I keep my riding sensible and don't constantly chase redline. The engine is impressively smooth for a single cylinder, barely any vibration through the pegs or bars even after long rides, and the six-speed gearbox makes commuting less of a chore than I expected.This site's Gixxer SF 250 writeup is honestly what convinced me to test ride one in the first place. My one real complaint, I've started noticing a bit of surface rust forming around a few bolts and the chain guard area, despite regular washing and care, which is a known gripe among other owners too from what I've read. Suzuki's service network in my city is also thinner than I'd like, had to travel a fair bit for the second service. Otherwise thoroughly happy with the purchase, feels like a genuinely well built engine wrapped in a package that doesn't get talked about enough. Anyone else dealing with the rust issue, and found a good preventive fix?

Good review. Question, how's the dual channel ABS behaved for anyone who's had to brake hard in the wet? Considering this over a naked 250 mainly for the fairing and wanted real feedback on braking confidence rather than just spec sheet numbers. Also does the tank feel a bit small to anyone else, curious what range people are actually getting per fill up in city riding.

Haven't personally faced any rust issues on mine yet at around 6 months in, though I'm in a drier part of the country so that probably explains the difference. What I will say is the service network complaint is spot on, took me nearly two weeks to get an appointment slot last time. Mileage-wise I'm getting slightly better than your 35, closer to 37, but I ride pretty conservatively in the city most days.

The rust thing is unfortunately common, I've seen it on a few Gixxer SF 250s parked near me too, seems to be worse for owners in coastal or high humidity areas. I've started applying an anti-corrosion spray every couple of months on the exposed bolts and chain guard, has helped slow it down noticeably. Otherwise completely agree on the engine smoothness, it really is one of the more refined 250 singles out there.
